Trapdoor: A Biography

Trapdoor is the brainchild of egomaniacal dictator Jonathan Brodsky, who is using his music to subvert youth and bring them over to the dark side… or so his mother would tell you.

The band is fronted by Brodsky, whose knack for instrumental interplay, musical eclecticism, and captivating melodies shapes Trapdoor’s sound. Jonathan plays keyboards, performs lead vocals, and writes Trapdoor’s music and lyrics. Trapdoor’s other founding member is Matthew Drewnowsky, whose friendship with Jonathan began in 1st grade. Throughout the years, the best friends have shared many interests but it is their mutual love of music that has lead them to this point. Energetic and engaging, Matt shares Jonathan’s passion for many of the iconic and obscure bands of the past and present. In October 2007, after a chance meeting at a local music store, prodigious guitarist Robert Di Bartolomeo successfully auditioned for the band and quickly become both a valuable bandmate and close friend. In 2008, on Trapdoor's 5th anniversary, longtime fan Dakoda Sannen auditioned as bassist and was warmly accepted into the band. With a talented, strong, and mutually supportive group of team-oriented players in place, the band is finally on its path to achieving its maximum potential.

Trapdoor’s shows are a display of intelligently composed and professionally executed originals and have started a buzz among the growing audiences that now gravitate to their concerts. Audiences are struck not only by the surprise that such a young band is putting out such a fresh and majestic sound, but also by the boys’ proficiency on their instruments and their unquestionable love of the music they’re playing.

Trapdoor continues to focus on expanding their ever-growing fan base by performing at numerous venues in and around the Toronto area. The future holds much for this exciting young group…
